“Home: An Exploration of Meaning”

Ancoats Pop UP CIC in collaboration with Mustard Tree is bringing the city of Manchester a curated art exhibition of professional artists and those coping with housing problems.
“Growing up in Sheffield and moving to Manchester, Charlotte’s work is also heavily influenced by how communities are affected within these cities, particularly through regeneration and gentrification; and this is often seen in her work.” –Charlotte Stoker This exhibition focuses on the multiplicity of meanings that ‘Home’ can take; be it emotional or physical, how do we feel and express what it means to sense belonging?
Selected through an open call, our featured artists present their interpretations in both 2D and 3D works of art. With the space curated to reflect a sense of homeliness, featuring furniture from Mustard Tree’s community shop.
“This Doodle is of a terrace of shops on Portland Street in Manchester, and I always find this little strip so comforting because it just never changes. When everything around it grows and develops and becomes shinier and new, it always stays the same. And I think that’s what home feels like.
For me, home is not necessarily where you live, it’s whereyou feel familiar and safe. Somewhere you’ll recognise immediately.” Cathy Duggan Opening night will be Saturday 24th September and is a ticketed event including cocktails by Witch Kings Rum, food by Oi Dumplings and Sally’s Dream Cakes. Featuring Live music from The Villanelles.
This exhibition will be open to the public for the following week Sunday 25th September – Saturday 1st October 11am – 4pm each day. Free entry.
Wednesday 28th September Ancoats Pop Up will host The Craft Club in the space, this is a free art workshop open to all. There will also be free refreshments provided.
The Craft Club will be open 11am – 4pm.
Maddie Vietmeier from Ancoats Pop Up CIC says “It gives us the greatest pleasure to be hosting our first exhibition in collaboration with Mustard Tree and in no other than the iconic Yang Sing Restaurant. We have curated, through open call, a fascinatingexploration of ‘HOME’ from a selection of UK artists. This space transformation will be fully immersive. We encourage you to sit, discuss, and ruminate on your own sense of belonging and what you see reflected in the artwork.”
Mustard Tree is a non-profit organization with a mission to “create opportunities for people to help themselves through providing practical support, friendship, connections into work, improvements to health and wellbeing plus new experiences to encourage aspiration”. Both ticket and artwork sales are in support of Mustard Tree!
